The fire on Union Street across from Woodside Street apparently ignited in the attached garage around 7 p.m. Friday, June 14.

Flames quickly blew through the roof.

A Lodi BLS unit rushed the injured firefighter from Hasbrouck Heights to Hackensack University Medical Center's trauma unit without waiting for ALS colleagues.

He was doing well at the hospital, colleagues later said.

A number of people -- at least one other firefighter among them -- were either brought to the hospital or treated at the scene.

Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Rochelle Park, Maywood, Saddle Brook, Wood-Ridge, Garfield, Hackensack, Hasbrouck Heights and Wallington

The County Wide Emergency Response Team also responded.
